Meet Jeanette Porter, a sales manager for Yardi’s PHA team. With over two decades in the housing industry, Jeanette has helped countless agencies make the switch to technology and better serve their communities with the Yardi PHA Suite.

If you have had the pleasure of meeting Jeanette, you know her warmth and passion are contagious. But behind her smile is a powerhouse of knowledge and dedication to public service.

Early role models

Jeanette credits her ninth grade English teacher, Ms. Dolezalick, with shaping the path she walks on today. “She wouldn’t let me give up,” Jeanette recalls. This teacher encouraged Jeanette to join the speech and debate team, where she first discovered how to use her voice to advocate for people, a skill she often uses in her role today.

Jeanette vividly remembers reciting “The Hangman” by Maurice Ogden, a poem about standing up for people in the face of discrimination. This piece sparked her desire to fight for people.

The journey to housing

Jeanette began her professional journey in modular housing but soon wondered how she could make a deeper impact. Her pastor advised her to look into public service, which led her to a new path in public housing: the Aurora Housing Authority in Colorado.

Over time, that path led her to Yardi.

“Yardi has been on my resume for decades. What better place to end my career than at the place that helped me start it?”

Leading a well-rounded team

When it comes to hiring, Jeanette looks for people who bring new talents to the table and help round out the team. “I try to look for people who are multi-skilled, those who can bring something unique to the team and who are genuine and driven.”

Because PHA sales are so complex, her ideal team members are people who can navigate the art of an intricate deal while keeping clients top of mind.

From the capital & beyond

Jeanette’s role takes her across the country, from NAHRO events to legislative meetings. One standout moment was attending a legislative conference in Washington D.C., where she joined her colleague, Jonathan Young, in meetings with Colorado representatives.

“Watching my colleagues advocate for public housing is a moment I’ll never forget.”

Putting clients first, always

“For me, it’s not just about closing a deal. My clients are real people I serve,” says Jeanette. “And that’s what I revolve my days around.”

From the very beginning, she’s been drawn to Yardi’s mission: take care of our clients, take care of our employees, take care of our communities.

She also values that Yardi supports her in giving back, especially through her involvement with NAHRO (National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials), a national organization that supports public housing through advocacy, training and resources. Yardi’s involvement with NAHRO allows us to stay in tune with what agencies need and how the industry is evolving.

Time spent in the studio

When Jeanette isn’t helping clients convert to cloud-based technology, you’ll likely find her in her pottery studio.

Before she found her home in housing, she was a master ceramist and won multiple awards, mostly for her work in porcelain. “It’s my happy place. Back to earth with the fingers in the clay,” says Jeanette.
