2017 in Review

2017 – what a year! It was 12 months of milestones and accomplishments for us here at Yardi. We thought we’d take a look back at some of our most popular blog posts to give you a sense of what readers found most interesting in the last year. They included news about awards, product launches, acquisitions and working together to help those in need. The top 10 most-read blog posts of 2017 included: Yardi was been honored with a major award from Glassdoor as one of the top places to work in the U.S., a prestigious award that resulted from positive employee feedback. Earlier in the year, Anant Yardi, founder and CEO, was named to a prestigious list of the nation’s top corporate leaders by Glassdoor. Mr. Yardi received a Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Award recognizing the Highest Rated CEOs for 2017. Given the two honors above, it’s no wonder that internships at Yardi are a hot commodity. The Yardi internship program offers hands-on work experience, professional development and networking opportunities. On the product side, the amazing team behind Yardi Payment Processing has recently done some magic behind the scenes to add a great new feature to our payment platform. Bill paying was a popular topic in 2017. Another popular product article explained Yardi has developed new technology for vendors that makes processing invoices and payments, uploading insurance certificates and accessing statements, much easier. Team Yardi brought something different to the National Association of Residential Property Managers (NARPM) annual tradeshow and convention: Yardi Breeze, refreshingly simple software designed to make work easier for smaller owners, investors and managers. It was a big year for both of our YASC conferences in Washington D.C. and San Diego. The 2017 Spring Yardi Advanced Solutions Conference (YASC) in Washington,...

Supporting Families

When Yardi employee Isabella Mitchell read our original story on Yardi Vasti Vikas Prakalp (YVVP), she pondered ways to get involved with health and sanitation efforts in impoverished in Pune, India. Months later, she and her daughter received the opportunity of a lifetime. Isabella’s daughter, Angelina Mitchell, is a registered EMT and pre-med major at Binghamton University.  Angelina wanted to volunteer abroad and felt called to support Vasti Vikas Prakalp as well. When her mother received a work assignment in Pune, Angelina asked to join her on the trip. While Isabella worked, Bharati Kotwal, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Yardi in Pune, helped Angelina find ways to get involved. The college student toured several clinics and hospitals with doctors via YVVP. The doctors serve at special sites that offer care free of charge. Angelina focused on programs that assist women and children. “Dr. Genesh showed me one of the mobile clinics that bring the services to the women and children who are not able to travel. These clinics have a doctor on staff that does free check ups and provides the women of Pune with the appropriate contraceptives. This clinic sees about 50 patients a day, 21 days out of every month,” said Angelina. At District Hospital, Dr. Ashwin leads a unique two-week program to prevent and treat malnourishment. Mothers are educated on proper nutrition for their children. Their malnourished children are simultaneously treated with a soft mixture of natural foods to restore health. The mothers receive a small stipend to offset their time in the program away from their families and work. Poor nutrition and early, frequent motherhood contributes to low iron level in local young women. Angelina learned that a lack of footwear exacerbates malnutrition and anemia. Hookworm infects already vulnerable...

Energized for Tomorrow May17

Energized for Tomorrow

Yardi has been creating real estate software for more than three decades. The company was founded by Anant Yardi in Santa Barbara in 1984, and over the years Yardi has become a respected industry leader and pioneer, providing technology solutions for almost every conceivable real estate vertical. After more than 30 years in the business, you might expect us to be setting the metaphorical cruise control while we enjoy the ride. Time to think again. As we focus on 2017 and beyond, Yardi is proud to unveil a new theme and direction. We are Energized for Tomorrow. Capturing our spirit Energy powers our bodies, our homes and our businesses. It is part of natural processes, people, machinery and technology. Energy is also an invaluable description of spirit. When we say “energized,” you might hear “focused, excited, driven, motivated, ready, enthusiastic, prepared.” But that’s just the beginning. Energy is contagious. It spreads quickly and can power exciting results and success. For us, it all starts in the workplace. We hope to continue perpetuating the positive, supportive, family-focused energy that is part of our longstanding corporate culture beyond our offices. Serving our clients Our clients tell us that they enjoy coming to our Yardi Advanced Solutions Conferences (YASC), as well as the vertical-focused Yardi Forums, because of the spirit of community at Yardi. As we continue to grow globally, we will find new ways to share that energy. Our energy for creative development and progress is frequently powered by our valued clients. We thrive when we listen to their challenges, strategies, struggles and successes. We are energized by creating products that help our clients run their businesses better. Energy is also a very practical consideration for every business owner. No matter what your segment of the real estate industry, providing efficient and affordable utility services and billing is a consideration. Energized for good Finally, we want to use our energy to give back. As part of our philanthropic efforts, we are working to promote the cause of energy efficiency on a national level. We have provided education grants to BOMA, IREM, NAA and BOMI International to move this important work forward. The goal is to help reduce energy use in commercial, residential and mixed-use properties through education and technology. We look forward to sharing more about how we are energized for good in the months to come. This year and into the future, we want to stay Energized for Tomorrow. Thank you for joining us on the...

YASC SB Recap Oct19

YASC SB Recap

During the last two days at YASC, it’s been a privilege to interact with so many Yardi Systems clients, some who have been with us for multiple decades, and others who are relatively new users of our products. We’ve talked with you about your businesses, your plans, your hopes and dreams for the future, and of course your real estate technology needs. During these conversations, we noticed one consistent theme – a theme that was introduced by our founder and CEO Anant Yardi during his remarks in Wednesday’s General Session. That theme is change. No matter what sector of the property management or investment market your business operates in, change seems to be ubiquitous right now. Our multifamily clients are seeing their businesses grow and thrive with the national resurgence in apartment renting. Our commercial and investment clients are continuing to recover from a down market and adopting bold new business strategies to improve their returns. There is an exciting new market sector comprised of single family home rental portfolios. Our affordable and public housing clients are seeking ways for technology to help them work more efficiently. Senior housing clients are seeing major growth in their market as the Baby Boomers plan for retirement. And our military and student housing providers continue to improve their processes to serve unique resident needs. Across these verticals, everyone is looking for ways that technology can help them be more nimble, mobile, efficient and automated. And there is growing recognition that data collected in your daily operations can help you work smarter when it is collected, organized, and analyzed in near real-time to answer questions and solve problems. During his remarks on Wednesday, Anant Yardi took a look back at the vast changes in technology we’ve all watched...

Focus on Mobile

New and newly upgraded Yardi mobile applications will be front and center this week at YASC SB. When we talk to Yardi clients about ways to improve their real estate-based businesses, and how technology can help, they never fail to mention the desire for new mobile applications that will let employees work more efficiently and businesses run more smoothly. Mobile technology has transformed how we run our personal lives. Shouldn’t it change our businesses, too? Here’s a quick users guide to the various mobile apps now available from Yardi Systems: Leasing Pad – If you are anxious to use Yardi Voyager in a tablet-optimized environment, then Leasing Pad is for you. Welcome New Readers

This week we are pleased to welcome all of our new readers to the Yardi Systems corporate blog, The Balance Sheet.  This is a place where you will find interesting profiles about our clients and employees, technology news, insight into real estate industry trends, and more. As an industry leading technology companies, Yardi wants to bring you closer to the dynamic personalities and happenings from the world of real estate. You may have heard that property management is boring – we would kindly beg to disagree. Take a look back through some of the stories we’ve shared so far. Yardi clients are a dynamic bunch, changing the world one property or project at a time. And they also have fascinating interests outside of the office. CBL & Associates’ Jody Bankston is an expert on new devices by day, and a CrossFit reality TV show star in his off hours. Dena Xifaras of Preservation of Affordable Housing moved back to her Massachusetts hometown to help working-class residents attain better homes. And Joanne Massey isn’t just a straight shooter as the controller for Fort Worth’s Sundance Square – she competes in Cowboy Silhouette rifle contests on the weekend. A closer look at our Yardi employees also showcases some amazing folks. We’ve highlighted Yardi employees from around the globe, including people like international cricket star and Orion implementation lead Aditya Thyagarajan. From our Toronto office, Vesna Uljarevic came to Canada on a refugee visa after fleeing Sarajevo during the war – she’s now a technical account manager. And Rose Hiebert heads up the Raleigh office’s food drive each year for personal reasons. Before she came to work at Yardi, she struggled financially and had to ask for donations to eat.
