Yardi meets the highest standards of energy efficiency for its clients, the property management industry as a whole and its own operations.
From July 2025 to June 2026, ENERGY STAR® experts from Yardi Energy benchmarked 1,581 properties for more than 100 clients. This visibility into building energy performance enabled property owners and managers to identify efficiency opportunities, track sustainability goals, make data-driven decisions on capital planning and energy management initiatives and comply with benchmarking ordinances.
The company also regularly shares insights on energy management innovations at industry events, client user conferences and other forums.
Achieving elite certification
As another measure of Yardi’s commitment to defining the standard of energy efficiency, the company recently earned ENERGY STAR® NextGen® for a property, known as building 430, at its headquarters campus in Santa Barbara, California. The designation verifies that the 61,000-square-foot structure is among the top 25% most energy-efficient, low-emissions buildings in the U.S.
ENERGY STAR is a voluntary U.S. government program that certifies buildings and consumer products as meeting certain standards of energy efficiency. ENERGY STAR NextGen is an optional level of certification for U.S. commercial and multifamily buildings.
NextGen builds on the ENERGY STAR certification that Yardi achieved for its corporate headquarters in 2022 with additional decarbonization and renewable energy requirements that exceed those for traditional ENERGY STAR certification.
“This certification recognizes building 430 as among the most energy-efficient in the nation,” ENERGY STAR said in a statement.
The multi-year ENERGY STAR NextGen certification effort for building 430 focused on improving data accuracy, energy visibility and renewable energy tracking. Its strategy encompassed installation of dedicated submeters to capture all server-related energy consumption, inspection of energy-consuming systems and collection of temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide levels as well as other indoor environmental quality measurements.
Measurable benefits from renewable sources
ENERGY STAR NextGen certification requires at least 30% of a building’s energy to come from a renewable source as well as an ENERGY STAR score of 75 or higher, meaning it’s more efficient than 75% of buildings nationwide. Building 430 qualified for the renewable energy portion of the requirement with a roof-mounted solar panel that generates more than 30% of its energy.
The certification initiative produced an ENERGY STAR score of 95 for building 430, with its renewable energy usage measuring 44% for the year ending March 31, 2026.
