The benefits

Aspire enables Stratum to simulate its work environment, track training’s effectiveness and adjust offerings to meet emerging business needs.

The company

Stratum is a property management company managing 15 properties and approximately 3,200 units across Oregon’s rural communities. Just two years into operation, the company needed a training system that could keep pace with its rapid growth.

The challenge

The environment presented by Stratum’s previous learning management system provider was static and did not adequately support the company’s onthejob learning and compliance training needs. Other shortcomings included the system’s inability to track completion rates and learner engagement.

The solution

Yardi Aspire

Stratum adopted Yardi Aspire, which provides a personalized blend of virtual training, live events, company resources and direct coaching feedback. The platform gives Stratum access to hundreds of customizable courses on compliance, safety, company policies, Yardi software skills, professional skills, leadership and more.

The story

Impactful learning from active engagement

“The training that Aspire makes available isn’t just a video to watch or an article to read. It gets our people engaged in the environment they’ll encounter on the job,” said Amy Bertrand, director of training and development for Stratum.

That difference became clear when Stratum struggled to get its teams comfortable with a specific accounting process. After weeks of training in multiple formats with limited results, employees got into Aspire’s interactive environment and started working through the process themselves. That’s when it clicked.

“When we got everybody into the system and they were actually doing the training in the mock environment, that’s when the light bulb went off,” Bertrand said. “It is so nice to have the system tailored to what they’re doing, what they’re seeing.”

Reporting that measures results

Stratum also benefits from Aspire’s extensive reporting features.

“The reporting module, in my opinion, was a little lacking in our previous LMS. And that’s another thing that’s been really cool about Yardi — the reporting element within Aspire is just amazing,” Bertrand said.

Managers can see exactly how long a learner spent on a class and compare that against the actual length of its content.

“You can see how long somebody spent on a class, and that can really inform what happens after the class is done. Because if we have a team member that is just not comprehending a topic or an item within Yardi, we can go in and look at how long they actually spent on the class. Sometimes there’s a video to watch, and if we can see that they spent less time on the class than the length of the video, we know that they didn’t watch it,” Bertrand said.

Quiz attempt data adds another layer of visibility into how learners are engaging with course material.

“It tells you how many times somebody attempted to take the quiz, and it gives you a lot of metrics on each attempt and what that looked like. It’s really good to drill down on team members that are really putting their time and effort into their training — and the others who are not. That was a surprising kind of metric that was really cool to unlock with Aspire,” Bertrand said.

Flexibility to meet new challenges

Stratum can adjust existing Aspire courses to match its environment, policies and procedures more precisely. “Not only can we add new courses, we can also alter the courses Aspire provides to what our team will experience at work and new requirements posed by our changing business environment,” Bertrand said.
