For the third year, NMHC will be hosting a charity 3K walk\/5K run during the Annual Meeting in Boca Raton, Florida on January 23rd.\u00a0 Launched in 2012, the signature \u201cWalk For Our Troops\u201d fundraiser has been a resounding success.<\/p>\n

During the first year, NMHC raised $61,000 in member donations for the Wounded Warrior Project, a program that aids veterans who suffered service related injuries on or after September 11, 2001.<\/p>\n

In 2013, the event grew to an even grander scale when NMHC members and firms donated over $165,000 to the Folds of Honor Foundation<\/a>, a national non-profit organization that offers scholarships to dependents and spouses of military servicemen and women killed or disabled while serving our nation.\u00a0\"Ride<\/p>\n

The 3rd\u00a0annual \u201cWalk For Our Troops\u201d will benefit Ride 2 Recovery<\/a> (R2R) which raises money in support of cycling programs to benefit the mental and physical rehabilitation of veterans at military and VA locations around the U.S.<\/p>\n

Setting this year apart from previous years is the very personal relationship NMHC has with the program. Clay Hunt<\/a>, son of NMHC Executive Member Stacy Hunt, was involved in the program joining R2R cycling trips with other veterans. Clay was a Marine Corporal who earned a Purple Heart after being wounded in Iraq and a year later deployed with an elite sniper unit to Afghanistan. When Clay returned home he performed humanitarian work in Haiti and Chile and lobbied for veterans on Capitol Hill.\u00a0 Regrettably, in 2011 at the age of only 28 Clay lost his battle with PTSD.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause the program was important to him, it was a way to shine a light on the posttraumatic stress disorder issue. People can come back missing limbs but it\u2019s the psychological mental issues that really are as important, if not more, confronting these people coming back. We owe them just as much support as we can give them and we\u2019re delighted to be able to do this,\u201d explained NMHC President Doug M. Bibby. \u201cThis program, R2R, was equally important because it\u2019s a really well run well done program that has reached a lot of men and women and helped them through this ordeal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"NMHCNMHC set a fundraising goal for this year of $250,000. In a show of support for our servicemen and women and their families and an effort to ensure success for the 2014 \u201cWalk For Our Troops\u201d program, Yardi has made a $100,000 donation.<\/p>\n
