In my work with operators across the country, I hear the same challenges come up again and again: staffing shortages, growing compliance demands and pressure to deliver a consistent resident experience. I recently had the opportunity to connect with leaders to talk through these issues and highlight where technology is having the greatest impact. I want to share those insights here because they point to practical steps that can help providers strengthen operations and better serve their residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-shared-affordable-housing-challenges\">Shared affordable housing challenges<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Affordable housing is a mission-driven sector of real estate that comes with persistent obstacles that continue to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recruiting and retaining qualified site staff is a constant struggle. Regulations and program requirements get more complex every year, which makes it harder for teams to keep up. Too often staff spend more time chasing paperwork and managing manual processes than engaging with residents or focusing on asset performance. These conditions create an inconsistent experience for residents, extend leasing timelines and raise the risk of compliance problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-shaping-affordable-housing-s-future-with-technology\">Shaping affordable housing\u2019s future with technology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The good news is that current and evolving technology is easing these pressures in meaningful ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Artificial intelligence can help reduce the burden on staff by automating time-consuming tasks like verifications and certifications. Online portals give applicants and residents access to the information and tools they need without long waits or office visits. Centralized services take time-consuming processes offsite and free staff to focus on the people in their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even with these advances, I often see organizations invest in technology that does not deliver the results they expected. The problem is rarely the technology itself. More often it is the lack of alignment between strategy and operations.
