Each year, the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardi.com\/blog\/giving\/commitment-to-community\/31153.html\">distributes philanthropic aid<\/a> to organizations selected by its employees.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yardi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/10\/Family-Promise_2.jpg?w=360\" alt=\"Family Promise happy family\" class=\"wp-image-36828\" style=\"width:350px\" width=\"350\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Today, we introduce <a href=\"https:\/\/familypromisecle.org\/\">Family Promise<\/a> of Greater Cleveland, OH, founded in 2011. Though headquarters is in Summit, New Jersey, this location operates independently. Family Promise is a family homeless shelter and supportive services for up to 21 families in a former elementary school building in Cleveland\u2019s Mt. Pleasant neighborhood. The agency serves an average of 75 families that consist of 200 individuals each year. Most of them are children with an average age of four with younger parents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The homeless families served by Family Promise are received through active participation in Cuyahoga County\u2019s Coordinated Intake. Families will stay in the shelter for an average of 12 weeks, receiving all the basic needs such as food, clothing, cleaning supplies and access to medical care. Immediately after a family enters a shelter, a case manager conducts a thorough assessment to determine the family\u2019s housing options, benefits eligibility, employment readiness and life skills level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe case manager then works with each family to develop a plan for housing, employment and long-term stability,\u201d said Connie Sievers, grants and communications manager for Family Promise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They assist the parents by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Searching for affordable housing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Help them to secure an income\/employment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Link them to needed medical, mental health and legal services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensures children&#8217;s needs are met with school and daycare services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All families are also offered Employment Services:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Job readiness by eliminating any challenges.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop and implement job plans.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assistance with resumes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Job searching and interview skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finding business-appropriate clothing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey also provide interested clients with links to workforce development programs and educational opportunities,\u201d Sievers explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once a family transitions to a permanent home, they will continue to receive case management treatment through Family Promise\u2019s Community Stabilization Program for at least one year to help them maintain their housing and not return to homelessness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFamily Promise\u2019s consistently positive outcomes speak to the effectiveness of its services. In 2022, 100% of positive housing outcomes were achieved with 90% remaining housed upon case closing,\u201d shared Sievers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Family Promise\u2019s core services are growing and expanding its efforts to help address its client\u2019s mental health. Training by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesanctuaryinstitute.org\/\">The Sanctuary Institute<\/a> with its evidence-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesanctuaryinstitute.org\/about-us\/the-sanctuary-model\/\">Sanctuary Model<\/a> for trauma-informed care began in October 2020 and is ongoing. The staff was thrilled about the unexpected support and knew it would go a long way to help with their work with homeless families. Many great non-profits were represented in the presentation to Yardi employees, so it was a wonderful surprise to be chosen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dina\u2019s Journey<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dina and her 13-year-old daughter found themselves homeless after their landlord sold the building they were living in, and the new owner did not want anyone residing on the premises. They first tried living at Dina\u2019s mother\u2019s house, though the conditions were inadequate. Dina had considered seeking services to help her, but her pride wouldn\u2019t let her. Then, a violent confrontation occurred between family members at her mother\u2019s house, and she knew she had to leave the property to keep her daughter safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dina contacted Coordinated Intake and was referred to Family Promise. She and her daughter didn\u2019t know what to expect and were nervous, but the staff soon helped her to feel comfortable and safe in their living unit. They ensured that all their essential needs were met and the daughter could remain in the same school she had been attending. Dina\u2019s compassionate case manager worked one-on-one with her to increase her motivation and to help her envision a brighter future. She also connected the family to many benefits, including SNAP, Medicaid and a rapid re-housing voucher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dina found new friends among the other mothers at Family Promise. They helped her to embrace humility and to appreciate the guidance the staff was giving her. Dina had always been interested in law enforcement. After successfully passing the City of Cleveland\u2019s Civil Service written exam and a physical agility test, she was accepted into the Cleveland Police Academy. After six months of intensive classroom and field studies, Dina graduated near the top of her class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dina didn\u2019t stop there. After graduation, she interviewed with the State of Ohio to train as a corrections officer. The interview was a success, and Dina was thrilled! She enrolled in the training program and received her certification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are very proud to say that Dina and her daughter live in their own home while still receiving some support from Family Promise\u2019s community-based case managers. Dina is a juvenile corrections officer, and her daughter thrives in high school. The family\u2019s future is absolutely glittering! We are so glad we could help to get them there,\u201d shared Sievers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Volunteer Opportunities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Family Promise welcomes Yardi employees of all skill sets to become involved with the agency and the families it serves. Groups of employees can make meals for the families in the shelter and host special events, such as parties, story times and movie nights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Employment Services Program utilizes volunteers to help with resume writing and mock interviewing tasks. The employment staff is always looking for volunteers who can help identify trends in employment, forge connections with local employers, give Job Club presentations, and interact with clients to enhance career and financial skills.
