{"id":31588,"date":"2022-03-29T00:53:00","date_gmt":"2022-03-29T07:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yardi.com\/blog\/?p=31588"},"modified":"2022-03-29T13:14:27","modified_gmt":"2022-03-29T20:14:27","slug":"talent-recruitment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yardi.com\/blog\/talent-recruitment\/","title":{"rendered":"Talent Recruitment"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>With multifamily property management \u2013 and businesses of all types \u2013 currently struggling to find enough staff as well as retain existing employees, a recent session at the Multifamily Social Media Summit focused on how social media can be utilized to find new hires and hold onto existing talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jennifer Staciokas, executive managing director for property management at Western Wealth Communities, and Jen Piccotti, chief learning officer at Swift Bunny, focused on practical takeaways that owners and managers can use immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yardi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2022\/03\/recruitment-session-PHOTO.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31589\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\"\/><figcaption>Jennifer Staciokas, left, and Jen Piccotti speak at the Multifamily Social Media Summit in Napa. Photo by Leah Etling.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have a problem out there right now. We can\u2019t find people, and we can\u2019t keep good people. That\u2019s the number one thing we hear: \u2018How do I find, hire, and retain employees?\u2019\u201d Piccotti said. Another common issue is that it is tempting to leave current staff in their existing roles due to the inability to find new hires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe need every single employee we have and we need them in the positions they\u2019re in currently. It can be very tempting to hold them in that position, but that\u2019s the worst thing we can do,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are five of the social media tips for attracting and retaining talent that the duo offered for companies to consider:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Make it easy for applicants to use social media to apply for open positions.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re not already using LinkedIn to accept applications for open roles, you\u2019re missing out on a huge pool of talent, Piccotti said. Today\u2019s applicants expect to be able to apply for open roles with just a few clicks of their mouse. Up to 86 percent of new hires apply directly to their positions through LinkedIn or other job sites, a huge amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>From the very first contact, your brand matters.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAmong prospective hires, 82 percent consider the employer\u2019s brand before they submit that application,\u201d Piccotti said. They\u2019re considering factors like whether the executive leadership is respected by employees (often using Glassdoor\u2019s rankings for this info), whether employees at the company are dedicated and hard-working, and whether the company has a supportive and positive culture. Caring about the community around you through support of non-profits, employee volunteerism and expression of corporate values is also important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Show new and current hires they have a chance to grow with you.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a pivotal consideration for prospective employees, who want to see that they will have the chance to move up and advance in their careers. They\u2019re also interested in future training opportunities to help broaden their skills. Ways to showcase include creating certificates for in-house training courses, celebrating current employee promotions, and talking about chances for lifelong learning at your company. \u201cThey want to see that there is opportunity, it\u2019s not just going to be a dead end once they get their foot in the door,\u201d Piccotti said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Showcase what employees have to gain from joining your team.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the place where company culture can really stand out. What\u2019s the employee culture like? Will they have a good time on the job, in addition to working hard? Examples of employee gains included <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/Caie3IEOfZz\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link\">posts from Bozzuto Group<\/a>, which created SOUL, an employee resource group for members of the Black community. Another example was a creative Instagram job post from RedPeak of Denver, which described its culture as including \u201cno scripts, no stuffy suits, no sales pitch.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Celebrate what\u2019s special and unique about your company, daily.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The most repeated acronym at the Multifamily Social Media Summit was UCG \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardi.com\/blog\/marketing\/takeaways-multifamily-social-media\/31559.html\">user-generated content<\/a> \u2013 and it also played a large role in the company case study presented by Jennifer Staciokas for Western Wealth Management (a Yardi client). She demonstrated the various ways that social media has played a positive role in hiring and retention of this growing, woman-led owner management firm based in Phoenix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re a people first business. We\u2019re not just a property management company. I also say we\u2019re a technology company and a staffing agency. We leverage technology to make things easier for our residents and our employees,\u201d Staciokas said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Western Wealth\u2019s four person recruiting team hires for 53 properties on a rapid-fire schedule, leaving job openings open for just three to four days at most. \u201cWe hire quickly, but correctly,\u201d Staciokas said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once on board, employees become part of a \u201chashtag Culture\u201d that includes fun and supportive tags like \u201c#WGYB &#8211; We\u2019ve got your back\u201d and \u201c#TMV &#8211; that\u2019s my village.\u201d Employees have even been known to make their own clothing with the hashtags emblazoned on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are a village, and we spend more time together at work than we do at home sometimes. It\u2019s really important that we like and respect our village,\u201d Staciokas explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Employees at Western Wealth document their job experiences by posting photos that include posters with slogans like: \u201cWe love working at WWC\u201d and \u201cJoin Western Wealth Communities and fall in love with your job.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All the content is driven by the employees themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe would never ask an employee to post. It\u2019s all very organic.
