The COVID-19 pandemic is changing the way caregivers look at, pursue and stay committed to employment opportunities. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the staffing shortage is causing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardi.com\/products\/senior-living-software-suite\/\">Yardi<\/a> client <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifecareservices-seniorliving.com\/\">Life Care Services<\/a> (LCS) to get creative. They\u2019re developing effective strategies to attract and incentivize staff members across their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"294\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yardi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2021\/10\/PA-Tammy-Johnson-400x294px.jpg?w=400\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30439\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>LCS\u2019 new staffing strategies<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LCS manages and supports senior living communities across the nation. Currently serving 140-plus communities, having staff members to meet the needs of their seniors \u2014 over 35,000 to be exact \u2014 is critical. The 2021 staffing shortage has made this especially difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But LCS is rising up to the challenge. <a href=\"https:\/\/leadingage.org\/members\/putting-out-red-carpet-recruit-new-employees\">Relayed by LeadingAge<\/a>, Senior Vice President Jill Sorenson explains how LCS is attracting new employees by applying the same principles used to bring in new residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen we&#8217;re marketing to a prospective resident who&#8217;s looking at several different retirement communities, we want to find out what&#8217;s important to them,\u201d says Jill Sorenson. \u201cOnce we find out, we focus on how our community will address that concern.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sorenson explains how this sparked inspiration for a new recruitment strategy, one to help LCS through the ongoing staffing shortage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Building a recruitment task force within the 13 communities she oversees, Sorenson\u2019s team got to work. Their new tactics include: &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Showcasing how specific communities will meet an employee\u2019s needs and desires<\/li><li>Ensuring a rapid response time with incoming inquiries and applicants<\/li><li>Maintaining a maximum five-minute waiting time for interviewees upon arrival<\/li><li>Preparing a group of back up interviewers, in the event the main interviewer is unavailable<\/li><li>Maintaining excellent communication with new hires &nbsp;<\/li><li>Creating a welcoming and robust orientation process<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to their success, these practices have been compiled into a recruitment toolkit, which is now in use across all LCS sites. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And they\u2019re not stopping there. LCS is designating September as their \u201cnational recruiting month\u201d complete with a calendar of events to discuss staffing strategies. This includes a \u201cTuesday tips call\u201d that brings together executive directors, health care administrations, HR directors and recruiters to share fresh ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s inspiring to see how LCS is staying committed to their residents \u2014 working hard to navigate the staffing shortage by implementing new recruitment standards.
