Conducted in April and May of 2021, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca\/en\/blog\/2021\/2021-seniors-housing-survey-learn-more-insights?utm_medium=newsletter&amp;utm_source=housing-research-newsletter&amp;utm_campaign=seniors-housing-2021&amp;utm_content=English\">Seniors&#8217; Housing Survey<\/a> collected information on rent prices, vacancy rates and more in seven regions across Canada. Ready to be explored, the survey revealed eye-opening findings on the Canadian seniors\u2019 housing market. Let\u2019s take a look:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The findings: Higher vacancies and rent prices<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting with vacancies, the survey showed that vacancy rates in seniors\u2019 residences are on the rise in provinces throughout Canada, with the exception of two. In turn, higher vacancy rates have become the new normal. The survey suggests that the weak demand could be a result of reluctancy to move into senior living communities during COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The seven Canadian regions assessed included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>British Columbia<\/li><li>Alberta<\/li><li>Saskatchewan<\/li><li>Manitoba<\/li><li>Ontario<\/li><li>Quebec<\/li><li>Atlantic Canada<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Quebec showed the highest capture rate in the country, despite the decrease in resident retention. Here 17% of seniors aged 75 and older lived in seniors\u2019 housing, whereas in other Canadian provinces, this proportion ranged from 5-10%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And in terms of regional average rents, five out of seven provinces saw in increase in price.
