Examining mortality rates by property type, NIC aimed to understand how the pandemic impacted different care settings, while showing that seniors housing provides safe environments for older adults. Fortunately, the NORC study revealed quite a few positive findings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Relayed by <a href=\"https:\/\/seniorhousingnews.com\/2021\/06\/03\/more-than-50-of-senior-living-communities-experienced-no-covid-19-deaths-in-2020-norc-finds\/?utm_hsid=220832810&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;_hsmi=131350323&amp;_hsenc=p2ANqtz-9QQvdgKst1RXmc0eptfN5X6VuffYOOkFNeIH5yx6E_83vUEtr5p3tjgY_tePTlb6ZU2SGroFc6GpDDtEkJsyNY2UyjLPH5htysbDEZ-UbchKl4SIQ&amp;utm_source=shn-newsletter\">Senior Housing News<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcknightsseniorliving.com\/home\/news\/51-percent-of-senior-living-communities-saw-no-covid-19-related-deaths-nic-funded-study\/\">McKnight\u2019s Senior Living<\/a>, here\u2019s an overview of what NORC found:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>51% percent of seniors housing properties studied experienced no COVID-19 deaths in 2020<\/li><li>Roughly two-thirds of independent living (67%), assisted living (64%) and memory care (61%) communities had no COVID-19 deaths<\/li><li>39% of skilled nursing facilities experienced no deaths<\/li><li>The COVID-19 mortality rate in independent living communities was comparable to that of their respective counties \u2014 suggesting that residents who live in these properties were not at higher risk by virtue of their care setting<\/li><li>The mortality rates in memory care and skilled nursing were higher than in other levels of care, and they were statistically equivalent to each other<\/li><li>Seniors housing properties continued to operate and care for their residents, while facing a range of evolving circumstances<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile COVID-19 has been devastating for older adults, a majority of properties avoided any resident deaths,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcknightsseniorliving.com\/home\/news\/51-percent-of-senior-living-communities-saw-no-covid-19-related-deaths-nic-funded-study\/\">said Caroline Pearson<\/a>, senior vice president of healthcare strategy and lead researcher at NORC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We hope that you\u2019ll explore the NORC study, <a href=\"https:\/\/info.nic.org\/hubfs\/Outreach\/2021_NORC\/20210601%20NIC%20Final%20Report%20and%20Executive%20Summary%20FINAL.pdf\">The Impact of COVID-19 on Seniors Housing<\/a>, to learn more.
