{"id":23632,"date":"2020-02-09T05:50:24","date_gmt":"2020-02-09T13:50:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yardi.com\/blog\/?p=23632"},"modified":"2020-12-25T02:23:49","modified_gmt":"2020-12-25T10:23:49","slug":"giving-back-in-toronto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yardi.com\/blog\/giving-back-in-toronto\/","title":{"rendered":"Giving Back in Toronto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Employees from Yardi Canada\u2019s Toronto office recently gave their time to spent a weekend day creating winter survival kits for regional non-profits.<\/p>\n<p>The Project Winter Survival kit assembly and donation day is organized by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engageandchange.org\/\">Engage and Change<\/a>, a charity created to foster good citizenship and encourage healthy communities through giving back.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-23633\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yardi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/01\/Yardi-team-Toronto-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This year, over 3,000 winter survival kits were distributed to over 240 front-line social service agencies and shelters in the greater Toronto area, including the Salvation Army, Street Health, Margaret\u2019s, Covenant House, Out of the Cold and many more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs it was my first event in Canada to help the people in need for basic and hygiene supplies, it was definitely a memorable and pleasant experience for me,\u201d said Bharti Shisode, senior technical analyst in the Toronto office. \u201cWe turned the task into a fun competition between two teams to get the most kits completed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis event is a reminder to be grateful for everything we have in our lives,\u201d said Susan Diano, CSD team lead in the Toronto office.\u00a0 \u201cFor <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-23636\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yardi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/02\/susan-at-event.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"320\" \/>the second year in a row there was a snowstorm on the day of the event, and I don\u2019t think that is a coincidence.\u00a0 This event reminds us that even if we are in a rough season of our life, that it could be much worse and at least we have a roof over our head and food on our table.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was an amazing and great experience to be a part of Project Winter Survival. For me, the most rewarding part was the sense of\u00a0satisfaction\u00a0in making a valuable and positive contribution to the community that we live in,\u201d said Karthik Attavar, associate technical account manager in the Toronto office. \u201cThe very fact that we had a snowstorm on the day of the event shows how harsh a cold weather can be if you are on the streets and how difficult it is to survive out there without the basic necessities of life.<\/p>\n<p>The kits included items like hygiene supplies, warm dry socks, hats, scarves, gloves, sleeping bags, hand warmers, bottled water, towels and snacks.<\/p>\n<p>There are over 9,200 people in\u00a0Toronto\u00a0who are\u00a0homeless\u00a0on any given night, affording to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fredvictor.org\/facts-about-homelessness-in-toronto\/\">fredvictor.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yardi is Energized for good.
