It\u2019s the perfect time of year to cozy up under blankets or enjoy the warmth of a crackling fire. Not all families are so fortunate. Yet through acts of compassion, residents of north Metro Atlanta who are facing dire straits can stay warm this season.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-23219\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yardi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/10\/coats-300x120.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>NFCC Coat Drive<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To support neighbors in need, Yardi Atlanta embarked on a mission to contribute new and gently used outerwear to <a href=\"https:\/\/nfcchelp.org\/\">North Fulton Community Charities<\/a> (NFCC). For one month, employees shopped and Marie-Kondo\u2019d their homes in search of warm gear. They brought their findings to work with them. Collection boxes throughout the office steadily filled with attire. Volunteers Lyndsay Griffin, Shela Johnson, Kayla Roth, and Marilyn Duffield helped to keep things organized.<\/p>\n<p>This week, organizers announced that the 2019 Yardi Atlanta Coat Drive was a success! Team members were able to deliver 120 coats to NFCC in addition to jackets, scarves, and gloves. Last year, NFCC was privileged to distribute approximately 1,400 winter coats, making Yardi\u2019s donation about 10 percent of the nonprofit\u2019s annual contribution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese coats are hand delivered to the homeless and to our most in-need community members,\u201d reports Marilyn Duffield, Residential Project Manager, Residential Client Services at Yardi. \u201cWe made a difference, and it was not trivial!\u00a0I love this company!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emergency Aid in North Fulton<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Each year, NFCC serves more than 4,000 families amongst North Fulton\u2019s growing population of economically marginalized families. The nonprofit operates in cities north of Atlanta proper including Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Milton, Mountain Park, and Roswell. In these cities, the average wage needed to pay for a two-bedroom apartment is more than $21 per hour. The minimum <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-23220\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yardi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/10\/Yardi-Blog-Phil-ATL-Coat-Drive-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>wage is only $7.25. Through emergency aid and enrichment programs, NFCC builds self-sufficiency and prevents homelessness and hunger.<\/p>\n<p>Participating families strive to create brighter futures. More than\u00a01,400 adults\u00a0take NFCC\u00a0life skills and workforce readiness classes\u00a0each year. Nearly 90 percent of the education program participants increased their wages or improved wage earning potential last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Support NFCC<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you live in North Metro Atlanta, you are invited to shop at the thrift store for gently used clothing. All proceeds benefit NFCC. You can also make clothing donations or volunteer hours to support store operations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nfcchelp.org\/volunteer\/\">Locals are encouraged to volunteer<\/a> in year-round programming. Opportunities are available for one-time and reoccurring volunteer roles for adults, youth, and groups. Special seasonal programs provide Thanksgiving meals and holiday toys to families. NFCC welcomes volunteers to help with sorting, packing and distribution.<\/p>\n<p>NFCC also hosts a <a href=\"https:\/\/nfcchelp.org\/food-bank\/\">food pantry<\/a> five days per week. \u201cUsing the Food Pantry frees up money to pay rent, utilities, transportation or an unexpected expense,\u201d explains Eden Purdy, Director of Programs, NFCC.<\/p>\n<p>The NFCC food pantry is a community effort. Individuals, businesses, faith and civic organizations, schools and others are encouraged to donate food and supplies for the pantry.
