PIC: The Next Generation

Share

Did you know HUD is working on replacing the current PIC system?

Most of you have probably heard about the new PIC (Public Information Center) system replacement called “PIC-Next Generation” (or “PIC-NG”). There are some very good reasons why HUD is doing this. According to their assessment, PHAs spend millions of hours per year correcting PIC errors. Astounding, isn’t it?

The current PIC system was developed more than 15 years ago. The architecture/technology is now outdated and cumbersome to maintain. According to HUD, the system currently supports some 50k HUD and PHA user logons.

The main objectives of this new system are to improve quality, availability and delivery of information that supports HUD affordable housing programs, while reducing the PHA administrative burden.

So, what’s so cool about this new PIC-NG? There will be no issues with 58s submitted out of order. There will be no upload denials (fatal edits) and no voids. This is a welcome relief to PHAs that spend a tremendous amount of time doing PIC submissions.

How does this affect Voyager? To do a PIC submission, PHA users will no longer need to leave Voyager and log on to the PIC system. Users can simply manage PIC-NG 58 submissions from within Voyager. We have a robust team working with HUD and a pilot PHA to make sure that we have completed all needed programming changes for submitting 58s, receiving status, obtaining PIC-NG messages, and displaying those messages in Voyager. Pretty amazing, huh?!
